The skin around the eye can be fine, fragile and prone to sagging; the ageing process causes the levator muscle to age and lose elasticity. When this happens, the upper eyelid can start to droop as well as developing deep set tear troughs. The cheek bones and eye sockets, which usually offer great support for the skin, begin to decrease and thus weaken the eyelid muscles.
Due to the fine nature of the eye skin, it can be more vulnerable in the sun so don’t forget to apply SPF on these areas. Genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors such as pollution, UV exposure, diet, exercise and smoking can all contribute to the speed of ageing.
