Laura Wilde's Story
"Since losing weight with NSCC my confidence has increased, I can now go into a shop and pick up clothes without trying them on knowing they will fit. *"
Weight Lost: 4 Stone*
Hi my name’s Laura, I’m 29 years old and have two young children. Since a child I have always struggled with my weight. It would be fair to say that over the years my weight has YoYo’d alot. Throughout both my pregnancies my weight rocketed.
Throughout my childhood and teenage years I was bullied because of my weight. I was always ‘a bit bigger’ than friends or others my age… Looking back now there were times I was actually an average size but as I’d always been ‘fat’, that stuck…
As a teenager I had tried various ways of eating ‘healthy’ diets with no great success.
I had been overweight when I fell pregnant, then my weight rocketed gaining an additional 5 stone in pregnancy. Although after my first child I lost a substantial amount of weight with the help of medication from my GP but then three years after my first child, I then had my second child and had again gained a substantial amount of weight. There have been various times over the years where I would struggle to do everyday tasks and these became a chore. I used to feel sluggish and often lethargic. After both pregnancies I had lost a small amount of weight by eating healthily however I struggled to lose the amount of weight I needed to. The medication I had previously had from my GP was no longer available so that’s when a friend told me about NSCC and my real weight loss journey began…..
I’d not really had any specific downfalls, I was never really a chocolate person, I just knew I was a food addict. Various events happened in my life when I often chose food to make me feel better, however it didn’t. Although I still love food, I feel I am much more educated about what is in the food and have much more control now. When my friend recommended NSCC I felt that it was my last resort at the time and worth a go.
Right from the beginning of my weight loss journey with NSCC, I was focused and found losing the weight started to become a fairly easy process once I had re-educated myself about food and factors around my weight.
From my first consultation, I ensured that I kept within reasonable guidelines of foods and calories however still making sure I didn’t miss out on the ‘Dominos nights’ with the Uni girls, things like this were still enjoyable but instead of eating the full pizza I could have a couple of slices and be content.
The staff at Bradford NSCC have always been supportive and positive, even if there was a small gain or if I stayed the same some weeks, they suggested ways to kick start my weight loss again and were very positive and as my weight loss progressed they always complimented me on how well I looked and how well I was doing.
Since losing weight with NSCC my confidence has increased, I can now go into a shop and pick up clothes without trying them on knowing they will fit. I’d never been able to do this before. My energy levels have increased and I can now do so much more with my children than I would have before.
I have maintained a fairly steady weight this last couple of years now. I have a little bit more to go to my ideal goal weight, however I’m extremely happy with my weight loss to date.
My weight loss has improved my mental attitude on a multitude of levels, I’m happy, so my children are happy and I feel I am more confident as a person now.
What was your starting weight and what are you now?
When I started with NSCC my weight was 14 stone 6lb, I had lost just under a stone myself before I started NSCC. My weight now is 10 stone 10lbs, but my ideal would be 10 stone.
How do you deal with boredom in your dieting program?
I try to vary what I eat all of the time and I have learnt that I don’t have to miss out on ‘ treats’ I just need a sensible amount, doing this helps to not binge eat anymore and keeps variation.
What are your three best dieting tips you’d like to share?
1. WATER…. I always had more weight loss and felt better with higher water intake.
2. Eat what you’d like to but within reason, it’s better to have it if you want it than fight the craving….
3. Accept compliments off people as your body changes, it will help you create a sense of wellbeing and positivity as well as give you the boost to keep going.
Are there any foods that you completely avoid and never eat?
I rarely cook with any types of oils, and I try not to eat very oily foods, onions rings are a no go!
Other than that there isn’t really anything I avoid… I just watch portions now.
What would you say to someone who wanted to lose a large amount of weight?
I would tell them to look at all their options and their lifestyle, what have they tried before to lose weight? Why didn’t it work? Are they ready in themselves to lose weight and be focused? If so NSCC can offer them help to assist with their weight loss…
